This guidance provides technical advice on how to develop bus priority schemes in an integrated way that supports the use of other sustainable forms of travel. It includes design guidance, best practice design principles and operational considerations to help ensure efficient and reliable bus operations. The design guidance has been created for use by anyone involved in the planning, design and implementation of bus priority schemes in London and will support boroughs throughout the development of their TfL-funded Local Implementation Plans.

Local Implementation Plans target investment toward initiatives that promote safe, healthy and sustainable transport. This includes enabling faster, more reliable bus journeys. The design guidance will also be essential for the development of Better Bus Partnerships, which will enable the successful boroughs to collaborate with TfL to deliver transformational bus infrastructure including bus priority, improvements to public transport interchange as well as customer experience.
