Setting up a transport safety officers scheme
Guidance for local transport authorities (LTAs) who are considering using transport safety officers (TSOs) to address issues with antisocial behaviour on their local networks.
It helps LTAs understand if TSOs are an appropriate intervention for their area and gives advice on setting up a scheme.
The guidance includes:
an assessment local authorities can use to find out whether TSOs are likely to be an effective intervention on their network
a readiness checklist to ensure that local authorities have the partnerships in place that are needed to run a successful TSO scheme
insights from the Department for Transport’s pilot schemes, which used TSOs in 5 different areas across the country
advice such as how long it could take to recruit TSOs, how to vet potential TSOs and how much it might cost to set up a scheme
template documents which can be tailored to individual local authorities’ needs, such as job descriptions and uniform lists
